About The Gray Guardian
Widower Hank O’Brian, a gruff, tough-talking, no-nonsense retired NYC police chief and WW II veteran, has one foot in the grave, until a freak incident gives him some amazing super powers— rejuvenating the octogenarian to that of a middle-aged man in his prime— and a second lease on life.
Seeing his Coney Island neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York go from middle-class to poor, overrun by crime and violence, O’Brian decides to use his newfound abilities to take back his neighborhood from the Russian mob and street gangs and clean up the political corruption within the city.
Fashioning a costume to hide his identity, in order to protect his handicapped daughter and friends, O’Brian adopts the persona of THE GRAY GUARDIAN! To many in the community he’s viewed as a hero, to others he’s just an urban myth, but to the authorities he’s a dangerous criminal and vigilante (and threat to their power), who must be apprehended at all costs.
The project took shape one night when Gray Guardian Creator/Writer Anthony DiChiara was watching a Clint Eastwood marathon on TV. “He’s such an iconic hero, and then it hit me— what if he had super powers?” DiChiara said. “That was all I needed to get me going. By the time the movie marathon was over, I had written a full synopsis and done some rough character design sketches.” THE GRAY GUARDIAN is the first octogenarian superhero in comics history.
